Zero Net Energy Classroom Demonstration Evaluation

Project Number ET12PGE2211 Organization PG&E End-use Whole Building, Lighting, Other, Plug Load, HVAC, Process Sector Public Project Year(s) 2012 - 2013
Description

The Pacific Gas & Electric company (PG&E) installed a zero net energy (ZNE) classroom demonstration at its Stockton Energy Training Center (ETC), which opened to the public on December 13, 2012. The ZNE classroom demonstration is a fully functioning classroom, that is designed as a ZNE building (i.e., it is designed to use as much energy as it produces over one year). The purpose of the demonstration was to educate customers about ZNE in general, to show that ZNE could be achieved, and to impact customers’ building practices by educating them about ZNE strategies. To convey these messages, the demonstration includes signs and labels to direct visitors to specific ZNE features. It also includes displays of the Energy Management System, energy output, and other systems. The demonstration is intended to serve as one of many efforts by PG&E to transform the market towards ZNE.
