Wireless Steam Trap Monitoring

Project Number ET10SCG0008 Organization SoCalGas End-use Other Sector Commercial, Industrial, Public Project Year(s) 2010 - N/A
Description

Project Summary

A non-intrusive technology is developed and applied to a steam system. The technology utilized thermocouples strap on the steam trap to monitor its performance. Based on developed algorithm, the receiver determines the steam trap for different modes; normal, fail open, fail close, leak, etc. The receiver sends the information to the console where the information can be viewed via an internet browser. The console is capable to alert a pager or cellular when an alarm alert is received from the receiver. The console logs the events for a preset period and backups to a server once a day. The technology is being evaluated at three different plants with different applications.
