Western Exterior Occupancy Survey

Project Number ET12PGE1271 Organization PG&E End-use Lighting Sector Commercial Project Year(s) 2012 - 2014
Description

To better understand the potential for energy savings through the implementation of bi-level lighting controls in exterior parking and pedestrian spaces, motion detection and data acquisition technologies were installed in selected areas at a total of eight sites in SCE, BPA, and PG&E territories. Sites types included two large office buildings, two big box stores, a fast food restaurant, a high school, an office campus, and an outdoor shopping center. Data reduction and analyses were used to produce occupancy profiles. The data analyses show that energy savings depend significantly on implementation of control technologies, especially the non-motion time period (a.k.a. time delay) used to determine vacancy.
