Water Agency Efficiency Technology Development and Assessment

Project Number ET12PGE5421 Organization PG&E Sector Public Project Year(s) 2012 - 2013
Description

The primary goal of this project was to develop a complete, standardized auditing procedure that PG&E field representatives, consultants, or water agencies themselves could perform on municipal water systems. The procedure was to be a simple audit, requiring limited time, measurements, and data, and providing recommendations for obvious energy efficiency measures as well as areas for further study.

Through the evaluation of two water agencies, a standardized auditing procedure was developed. The procedure was designed to allow an auditor to perform individual components as time is available. Additionally, the progam provides ranking of various components in the system, allowing the auditor to prioritize efforts if time is limited. The outputs from the program are also ranked, and may refer to Fact Sheets and Calculations the auditor can reference in determining the feasibility of a recommendation.

In addition to the auditing procedure and evaluation of two water agencies, a study was performed on water end use data to attempt to characterize water agencies in PG&E’s territory. The study compared water use to population served by a water agency and population density
