VSD Dust Collection System at a Battery Manufacturing Facility

Project Number ET 06.14 Organization SCE End-use Whole Building Sector Industrial Project Year(s) 2006 - 2007
Description

Project Summary

Variable speed control of dust collection system and automated gates for the battery and metal finishing industries. The primary focus of this project is to reduce energy consumption in fume and dust collection systems from a battery manufacturing facility. The battery industry is not familiar with and is reluctant to adopt this technology concept for its ventillation system because the concern for heavy and sticky lead dusts which are difficult to remove if settled within the ducts. A minimum space velocity must be maintained within the ducts at all times. This project will demonstrate and monitor the energy savings achievable at a battery facility while maintaining a preset velocity to minimize dust deposition in the ducts.
