Project Info COMPLETE Project Title

Soil Moisture Sensor Technology - Impact on Water Pumping in Agricultural Crops

Project Number ET14PGE1501 Organization PG&E End-use Other Sector Agricultural, Commercial Project Year(s) 2014 - 2014
Description
The project was designed to evaluate changes in water management (applied irrigation water) by growers who adopt Soil Moisture Sensors (SMS) to schedule their irrigation events. The goal was to determine if, on-average, there was a reduction in applied water (and associated energy) by growers who adopt and use SMS technology to determine the timing and amount of water required by their crops. And if savings were achieved, to estimate the value (in kWh savings) attributed to the adoption of SMS technology by growers.
