Project Info COMPLETE Project Title

Small Commercial BMS utilizing Normalized Metered Energy Consumption (NMEC) Analysis

Project Number ET17SDG1061 Organization SDG&E End-use HVAC, Lighting, Other Sector Commercial Project Year(s) 2017 - 2020
Description

For purposes of this project, a vendor managed BMS was selected, that focuses on fast food restaurants, other quick service restaurants, and convenience stores with significant on-site refrigeration and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. Other controllable building systems include lighting although that was not deployed here. Savings are derived from operational improvements and recommendations, such as dynamic setpoint control, alarming on non-catastrophic (but energy wasting) equipment defects, and improved scheduling.

The project explored HOPP characteristics and requirements, specifically as related to calculating and reporting energy savings using NMEC. The results of this pilot project shall inform future use of NMEC analysis and highlight “Dos” and “Don’ts” for measurement and verification (M&V) practitioners as well as technology vendors.
