Over-generation Pilot Plan

Project Number DR16.07 Organization SCE End-use Whole Building Sector Commercial Project Year(s) 2016 - 2017
Description
The objective of this pilot is to evaluate various over-generation mitigation strategies for water district applications. The pilot will help to determine what technologies and strategies will provide the most cost effective method of increasing useful load during Over-Generation events. This involves understanding which strategies water districts are ‘comfortable’ with implementing, along with identifying the range of durations and frequencies when response to those events is needed. Pumped water storage has proven to be a good load curtailment candidate during DR events, but evaluation and testing will need to confirm if water pumping in these scenarios is flexible or fast enough for Over-Generation mitigation. The pilot will assist the customers with the installation of the automated response equipment and will seek to address any customer concerns that exist with automation of operation critical equipment as well as any safety concerns that the customer may have.
