LED Street Lighting and Network Controls - San Jose

Project Number PGE 0913 Organization PG&E End-use Lighting Sector Commercial, Public Project Year(s) 2009 - 2009
Description

This report summarizes an assessment project conducted to study the performance of light emitting diode (LED) luminaires with network controls in a street lighting application. The project included installation of LED street lights with network controls on public roadways in San Jose, California.  Quantitative light and electrical power measurements as well as surface and overhead photographs from a maintenance bucket truck were taken to compare base case low pressure sodium (LPS) performance with that of the LED replacement luminaires. Network controls functionality was also tested and qualitative satisfaction with the system was gauged through a user survey. Estimated economic performance of the network-controlled LED street lighting system was compared to that of the incumbent LPS streetlights.
