Project Info COMPLETE Project Title

LED Refrigerated Case Lighting

Project Number PGE 0722 Organization PG&E End-use Lighting Sector Commercial Project Year(s) 2007 - 2008
Description

Project Summary

Replacing the fluorescent bulbs that light frozen food and refrigerated cases in supermarkets with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) cuts electrical consumption by nearly half and results in more consistent lighting, lower maintenance costs, and longer lighting life. In this study, the next generation of LED refrigerated products are studied at a major retailer. LED source illumination was installed to replace T8 fluorescent lighting in two freezer (low temperature) cases and one refrigerated (medium temperature) case. Project objectives include: comparing the brightness and light quality (color) of LED and fluorescent freezer case lighting systems in a field application; quantifying potential energy savings; and soliciting customer feedback.
