Project Title
LED Office Lighting and Advanced Lighting Control System
Project Number ET11PGE3251 Organization PG&E End-use Lighting Sector Commercial Project Year(s) 2011 - 2012Description
The project assessed the energy savings potential of LED lighting with an advanced lighting control system (ALCS) in a commercial office building. The control strategies were implemented and monitored in the following phases:
1. Existing fluorescent lighting
2. New LED luminaires at full power, with manual on/off control, using 2’x2’ LED fixtures from Cree and Corelite
3. ALCS with task tuning only (80% powered) using a wireless control system from Adura
4. ALCS with task tuning, daylight sensors, and occupancy sensors, using sensors from Leviton
5. Fully functional ALCS with individual dimmers
An initial energy savings of 21% resulted by replacing fluorescent lighting with LED lighting in an office. A further energy savings of 41% resulted by adding an advanced lighting control system (ALCS), according to the results of a test in a Class A commercial office space in 2012.
