Heat Pump Dryer Impact on Clothing Life Emerging Technologies Assessment

Project Number ET14PGE1751 Organization PG&E End-use Other Sector Residential Project Year(s) 2014 - 2016
Description

The purpose of this project was to determine whether heat pump clothes dryers offer non-energy benefits—specifically, reduced clothing wear and tear—that could help consumer adoption. Although the project did not conclusively find that heat pump clothes dryers cause less wear than conventional dryers, the study was able to show that they do not cause more wear than conventional dryers, and some consumer evaluation results indicated a preference for clothes that were dried in heat pump dryers.
