Dynamic Air Balancing for Commercial HVAC systems

Project Number ET15SDG1081 Organization SDG&E End-use HVAC Sector Commercial Project Year(s) 2015 - 2019
Description

This study demonstrated how existing constant air volume (CAV) RTUs may approximate a variable air volume (VAV) system to increase efficiency and comfort for the building’s occupants. Given that 60% of the U.S. commercial floor space is served by CAV RTUs, these dynamic air balancing systems show promise for reducing energy use in a large cross-section of the building sector, in addition to other efficiency offerings (i.e., variable frequency drives and advanced control strategies).
