2024 SCE C&S Planning and Coordination Key Initiatives Report

Project Number SCE25PC0003 Organization SCE End-use HVAC, Other, Water Heating/DHW/HPWH, Whole Building Sector Agricultural, Commercial, Cross Cutting, Residential Project Year(s) 2024 - 2024
Description

The Southern California Edison (SCE) Codes and Standards (C&S) Planning and Coordination subprogram presents their 2024 Key Initiatives. The program is designed to  monitor progress and identify  barriers to decarbonization. Key initiatives to advance technology and innovation include the Zero Flame Spread initiative on fire-resistant building materials, the Building Inventory GIS (BIG) Database characterizing existing buildings in SCE territory, the Bottoms Up Grid Model Advanced Profiles (BUGMAP) tool to simulate load impacts on in individual circuits, studies on flexible load potential and on heat pump space heating performance on winter peak. The program supported the development of new policy and regulation by conducting an inventory of Building Performance Standards (BPS), supporting the development California Air Resources Board (CARB)’s zero-emission standards as well as the South Coast AQMD’s zero-NOx standards through grid impact analyses. The program continued long-standing contributions of subject matter expertise and data to ASHRAE’s Standard 189.1 and CALGreen. The program continued its mission to maximize ratepayer value through collaboration and coordination: in collaboration with SCE’s transmission and distribution department, the program helps develop early insights into customer electrification and built a tool to track new all-electric construction projects on the CEQA database.  The program helped host the 2024 ET Summit and the 2024 CalBEM Symposium, continued as a founding member of AWHI, and co-chaired an EPRI research program on equitable decarbonization and electrification
