Supermarket LED Refrigerated Case Lighting

Project Number PGE 0608 Organization PG&E End-use Lighting Sector Commercial Project Year(s) 2006 - 2006
Description

Project Summary

Replacing the fluorescent bulbs that light frozen food and refrigerated cases in supermarkets with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) cuts electrical consumption by nearly half. In this study, 36 five-foot fluorescent lights were replaced with 60 four-foot LED light bars at a major grocery chain store. In addition to 43 percent energy savings, switching to LEDs resulted in more consistent lighting, lower maintenance costs, and longer lighting life, since LEDs last three times as long as fluorescents.
