Is this the next evolution in smart home hubs?

Recently, Google announced Home, a product designed to compete directly with the Amazon Echo. In doing so, analysts from GreenTech Media have pointed out that Google may be pivoting away from using the thermostat as a smart home hub, while also trying to also leverage the company’s new mesh router. With two giant companies like Google and Amazon making major investments in home hubs, and given Amazon’s success already, we may be seeing what the centerpiece of the connected home will look like in the years to come. And if that’s the case, it could mean more order in the historically wild smart home space, which may translate to wider consumer adoption and energy savings. Time will tell.
